What happens at sign-up and why

A betting account needs three things: an identity, a way to prove you control it, and a way to move money. Sign-up collects the first two. Typical fields are a username, a password and a contact detail such as a mobile number, and some sites add a name or a referral code. Which fields GT99 shows is visible only on its own page, so read each label there.

Cause and effect matters here. If the name you enter differs from the name on your payment account or identity document, the later check fails, and the failure appears as a held withdrawal rather than a sign-up error. Enter real details once and you avoid a repair later.

Age and local rules

Only adults aged 18 or over may register. We cannot check your age and the operator performs its own checks, so a false date of birth only creates a problem at the verification stage. Different places have different rules about online play; check the rules that apply where you live before you create an account.

If you are signing up on behalf of anyone else, stop. An account must belong to the person who pays into it and withdraws from it.

Choosing credentials that hold up

A password is only as good as its isolation from every other password you own. Choose something long that you have never used elsewhere, store it in a password manager or write it somewhere private, and avoid birthdays and phone numbers.

• Use a unique password of at least twelve characters if the site accepts it.

The first ten minutes after registering

Once the account exists, do the setup in this order. First sign out and sign back in, which proves the credentials work. Second, open the account or profile area and check the stored name. Third, read the promotions page before you deposit, because some offers must be selected before the first payment rather than after.

Verification and why it appears

Verification confirms that the person holding the account is the person named on it. It is normally triggered by a withdrawal, a large deposit or a security alert, and the documents requested vary.
