An APK is simply the package format Android uses for apps. Installing one outside the Play Store works, but the phone refuses by default, and that refusal is the cause of most failed first attempts. This page explains the sequence in logical order: obtain, allow, install, revert. Each step exists for a reason, and knowing the reason helps you fix the failure when it happens.
Why Android blocks the first attempt
Android treats any app from outside an approved store as unverified. The block is a protection, not a fault. When you tap an APK, the phone asks whether to allow installs from the browser or file manager that opened it. That permission is granted per app, which is why you will see Chrome or Files named in the prompt.
The correct response is narrow: grant the permission to the one app you used for the download, install, then switch the permission off again. Leaving it on widens the door for every later file.
Getting the file from the right place
Start at a listed GT99 address: gt99.org, gt99.app, gt991.com or 2gt99.com. Use the app download button there, not a file shared in a chat group, because a re-uploaded file may have been altered. If your browser warns that the file type can harm the device, that warning is generic for APKs and does not by itself mean the file is bad; it does mean you should be certain of the source.
For the overall picture of the app and the browser alternative, see the app hub.
Permissions and what is reasonable
After install, Android may ask for permissions when you first open the app. Judge each by whether the function needs it.
| Permission | Reasonable for this kind of app? | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | Often | Optional, can be refused |
| Storage or files | Sometimes, for caching | Needed if you save screenshots |
| Camera | Only if a verification step uses it | Grant at the moment it is requested |
| Contacts, SMS, call log | No clear reason | Refuse and report on the GT99 help channel |
After the install
Open the app, sign in with your existing details, and compare the displayed name and balance with what you saw on the mobile site. Revoke the unknown-sources permission. If the app does not open, follow the install guide; for new versions read about updating.
Lacking the space or the patience for an APK is a fair reason to stay with the mobile site. Nothing in the account depends on the app.
